Infertility Awareness Week 2015

May 19-28, 2015, is Canadian Infertility Awareness Week (CIAW). This important week  is a time for those who have experienced infertility, their doctors, friends and family to come together and show support for others who are struggling with fertility through conversation and open dialogue. It also provides an opportunity to educate the general public on matters of fertility health and the prevalence of infertility in our society.

In the past few days, it has been extremely encouraging to see the willingness of people to speak candidly about their infertility journeys, as well as the media’s desire to listen and share these stories across the country. We are proud to be a part of this discussion, and sincerely hope that by speaking out and sharing knowledge we will be able to reach anyone who has questions, concerns or hesitations about their own fertility.

We would like to say a special thank-you to patients, past and present, who volunteered to talk about their journey with media; this is a brave thing to do and we are certain that your openness will inspire and provide strength to others. We would also like to thank the various media outlets we spoke with who helped shine a light on this growing awareness movement.

As Canadian Infertility Awareness Week draws to a close, there is one more story we would like to share: Anna’s story. Anna is a young woman who chose to take control of her fertility future when she was met with an unexpected challenge. We hope her story inspires and provides hope to others walking in her shoes:

Genesis Fertility Centre: First clinic in Canada to have independently verified pregnancy rates

In 2013, Genesis Fertility Centre became the first and only clinic in Canada to independently verify our pregnancy success rates.

Genesis Fertility Centre, First, Canada, Independently Verified, Success, Pregnancy, Rates

Genesis Fertility Centre is the first fertility clinic in Canada to have independently verified pregnancy rates.

Why did we have our clinical results independently verified?

We did this to improve transparency about our clinic’s pregnancy rates and make it easier for patients to understand our success rates.

In the U.S., pregnancy rates reporting by fertility clinics is mandatory, audited and identifiable. In Canada however, success rates reporting is voluntary, de-identified and unaudited. Websites may contain only biochemical pregnancy rates and use different denominators, making it virtually impossible for patients to compare the success rates of different fertility clinics.

At Genesis, we ensure validity of our pregnancy rates annually through third-party auditing conducted by two independent, unrelated industry organizations: Fertility Authority, a leading authority in patient advocacy, and IVF Reports, an authority in IVF standards.

A Special Thank You

We would like to extend a great big thank you to all of those who were a part of our Egg Freezing: Get Informed! event last night. Your presence made this fun, relxed and informative evening a success. It was amazing to see so many women gathered to learn more about options for preserving their fertility by listening to Dr. Sonya Kashyap’s presentation and mingling with our medical team.

If you weren’t able to join us last night, we have plenty of resources online to help you make informed decisions about your fertility. Be sure to visit our website to find everything from fertility testing and treatment options to tips on how to optimize your chance of conception. Dr. Kashyap is also a contributor to the Huffington Post and has penned articles on why egg freezing deserves serious consideration and the use of egg donation in Canada.

We’re also happy to speak with you in person: please call us at 604.879.3032 or book a consultation online.

Thanks again to all of those we met last night and we look forward to meeting more of you in the future!

Sincerely,
The Genesis Fertility Team
