Meet Us Monday: Avneet Panesar

I’m Avneet, one of the medical office assistants’ that works here with the Genesis family.

Since joining the Genesis family, I have only felt love and sincerity from every individual that I have worked with. Everyone from our welcoming receptionists to our amazing doctors who ensure that everything that they do provides a warm, caring, and compassionate atmosphere for our patients. From the moment we meet our patients and begin their treatment plans, we start to build relationships that don’t just last until the end of their appointments, but rather for a lifetime.

I’m Ruth, the Office Manager at Genesis Fertility Centre.

I am one of the first people you will get to connect with over the phone whether it be answering any questions you might have or assisting you with your appointments. Meet Us Monday: Matthew Wiltshire

Matthew Wiltshire is a highly educated and skilled reproductive scientist, with multi-clinic experience. After completing his B.Sc. in Medical Science & Applied Biotechnology, Matthew started his training in the field of IVF in 2005, in a modest 300 cycle clinic in Albury, Australia. Whilst there, Matthew completed his Masters in Reproductive Medicine (with Distinction) in 2007 from the University of New South Wales and was head-hunted to join a well-established 2000+ cycle clinic in Adelaide, South Australia. During his time with this clinic, Matthew progressed from Embryologist to Clinical Team Leader, then to Satellite Clinic Manager. By way of ability, knowledge and ambition Matthew was offered the role of Business Improvement Project Officer and Laboratory Manager for a 300 cycle clinic in Darwin, Australia. He accomplished all this in just over 2 years.

Matthew took a sabbatical from the world of IVF to try his hand as a professional fire fighter in the tropical climates of Darwin, Australia. After three years of envious dry season weather, tormenting wet seasons and amazing life experiences, Matthew and his wife decided to travel the world. They have been traveling through 15 different countries, most recently Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A and Canada, finally landing in Vancouver, with the perfect timing to be invited to join the highly skilled and talented team that is Genesis Fertility Centre, as the Laboratory Supervisor.

Raluca Shaw - finance clerk at Genesis Fertility Centre

Meet Us Monday: Raluca Shaw

Hello everyone!

My name is Raluca Shaw, and I am a Finance Clerk here at Genesis.

You will get to see me every weekend on your Genesis journey. I am at the reception desk and if by chance you miss me, you will probably hear me… my laughter is quite contagious…I guess you’ll just have to come in and see for yourself!

I’m originally from Romania, but moved to Vancouver when I was 17 years old. I finished high school, completed college, got my first job and so-on in this city, so it is definitely home for me. I have been here now for 16 years, and never lived outside of Vancouver. I love everything this city has to offer.

I’ve been with Genesis for almost 4 years now, and during my time here I’ve seen many, many miracles happen. When nature says “no”, science steps in with a big “yes”! We have a wonderful team here at Genesis, and everyone works together to give you the most positive experience possible. I feel very privileged to work with such a great group of people.

Outside of the office, I recently joined a Zumba class, and I’m starting to see why people find it addictive. 5 minutes into the class and everyone has a smile on their face. I leave after 75 minutes feeling energized and with a clear mind. Dancing is good for the soul!

I look forward to meeting you on your voyage to parenthood!

Meet Us Monday: Helen Ortojan year in review

Genesis Fertility Centre in Vancouver looks back at their achievements over the past year.

Maligayang bati!

Maraming salamat at mabuhay tayong lahat.

We are proud of the many positive things that have happened at Genesis over the past year, like our successful open houses and egg freezing event. As well as the birth of the first EEVA baby in Canada achieved through our clinic.

Last October , I had the opportunity to attend the ASRM convention in Hawaii . It was a great experience because I got to learn about new updates and new studies to help patients with their infertility issues.

We here at Genesis are united in our goal to help all of those hoping to complete their family. We are deeply grateful for all of the support from our patients and believe in our abilities to help make their dreams a reality. We look forward to helping you in the year to come. Thank you!

Meet Us Monday: Paul Wilkinson, Embryologist

Hi, my name is Paul Wilkinson and I am an embryologist here at Genesis Fertility. You will meet me during your OPU and embryo transfer and I’ll talk with you about your embryos as they grow in the lab. You could call me your first baby sitter.

Genesis Fertility Center in Vancouver

I’m originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I went to school at Dalhousie University and spent time working in research labs after my degree. I was able to work on multiple projects during that time, including research into heart disease and obesity, that inspired me to seek out a field where I could help people in a more direct way.

Meet Us Monday: Jaq

Oh my, now it’s my turn to write a ‘Meet us Monday’ for the Genesis blog.

You could probably tell from the first sentence that I’m not exactly an extrovert, but  I will share a little bit about myself. I’m from Singapore, which some people call  “a little red dot” because it is such a small country, but it is a vibrant one. Back in Singapore, I had a very hectic work schedule, not to mention at the end of every month we had to churn out reports for month end results (and yes you guessed correctly: I worked in an accounting department).

As I’m not getting any younger,  my husband and I decided that we would like to have a more relaxed life and the only way for us to do that was to move to a western country. We were lucky that all of our paperwork was approved in a very short time by the Canadian government, so we were able to land in Vancouver by the end of 2011.

Long story short, Genesis was looking for someone in the accounting dept. and I happened to apply and got the job. I have been working at Genesis for 3 years now and it’s been nothing but busy everyday. Not a single day goes by where I’m not learning something new and I mean it! Allow me to explain why: My husband and I do not have children.  We accepted that early on and therefore I knew nothing whatsoever about fertility. Therefore, to work in a fertility clinic and to learn all the fertility terminologies was quite challenging for me.

Have I accomplished my goal of having a more relaxed life here in Vancouver? My honest answer is not yet. However, though it is a very busy working life, as the time goes by I like working at Genesis more and more and am so proud of our team and the work we do. Not only do we help each other as a team, but we also sincerely want to help patients in every way possible.  Every member of this team will do everything they can to help you achieve your goal.  Being from Singapore where technological advancement is so prevalent, I can appreciate how hard the team has worked to ensure patients at Genesis have the latest technologies to help them in their journey.

Oh one last thing! At Genesis we really are a unique team, for instance most of us speak more than 1 language. For example, I can converse in Japanese as well as Indonesian and Mandarin (have to admit though that my mandarin is not good but manageable in that I can understand what people are talking about most of the time). If you happen to drop by to Genesis, you will probably see me working with numbers in the accounting dept.

Thank you for reading my little blog and looking forward to have a chance to meet you all in Genesis.

でわ、わたしの小さなブログをよんで頂き誠に有難う御座いましてGenesis にお会いできるチャンスをお楽しみ二しております。

Meet Us Monday: Genesis Office Administration Team

Genesis Fertility Centre in Vancouver Admin Staff

Meet Genesis’s office administration team, Nicole Gilchrist, Maria Leonora “Knot” Martinez  and Gail Mawhinney (left to right in photo)!  Missing from the photo is Amy Bruchet.  These ladies are often the first voice you hear on the telephone and the first face you see when you arrive at our centre. Nicole and Knot come to us from across the world; Nicole from Australia and Knot from the Philippines.  Amy is “home grown” as is Gail.  Together they bring a wealth of experience that has greatly benefited Genesis patients.

And of course all have interests outside of work. Nicole is often busy exploring B.C.’s great outdoors. Knot is currently hitting the books in preparation for a major exam. Amy is actively involved in community work, most notably Ruben’s Shoes, a charity for overseas children. Gail is busy with her family including a new puppy who Gail has given a loving home.

And so, we salute you, the Genesis Office Administration Team for your warm smiles greeting patients, your kind voices on the telephone and your work in the community.

Meet Us Monday: Gail Mawhinney, Administrative Team

Gail Mawhinney of Genesis Fertility Centre in Vancouver

Meet Gail Mawhinney, a wonderful member of our administrative team with her dog with Hobbes

Hi, my name is Gail and I work in the administration department. I completed my MOA diploma in 2013 and was very happy to start working at Genesis. It’s great to be part of such a dedicated and caring team.

I grew up in Montreal, Quebec and in my early 20’s I cycled from Winnipeg to Vancouver. When I reached Vancouver I fell in love with the west coast and moved out to smell the sea breeze a year later. I have never looked back.

I met my husband while I was studying Biology at UBC. My pride and joy are my two wonderful kids. We also have a house full of pets – a puppy, cat, leopard gecko and lovebird. I love going camping with my family and walking our hyperactive puppy. We are very lucky to live close to the Coquitlam River with its trails and wildlife.

I enjoy spending time with friends and discussing books with my book club.

I have worked in many different and varied jobs but have always had a strong interest in the medical field and feel very lucky to have found a place at Genesis.
