Meet Us Monday: Jaq

Oh my, now it’s my turn to write a ‘Meet us Monday’ for the Genesis blog.

You could probably tell from the first sentence that I’m not exactly an extrovert, but  I will share a little bit about myself. I’m from Singapore, which some people call  ”a little red dot” because it is such a small country, but it is a vibrant one. Back in Singapore, I had a very hectic work schedule, not to mention at the end of every month we had to churn out reports for month end results (and yes you guessed correctly: I worked in an accounting department).

As I’m not getting any younger,  my husband and I decided that we would like to have a more relaxed life and the only way for us to do that was to move to a western country. We were lucky that all of our paperwork was approved in a very short time by the Canadian government, so we were able to land in Vancouver by the end of 2011.

Long story short, Genesis was looking for someone in the accounting dept. and I happened to apply and got the job. I have been working at Genesis for 3 years now and it’s been nothing but busy everyday. Not a single day goes by where I’m not learning something new and I mean it! Allow me to explain why: My husband and I do not have children.  We accepted that early on and therefore I knew nothing whatsoever about fertility. Therefore, to work in a fertility clinic and to learn all the fertility terminologies was quite challenging for me.

Have I accomplished my goal of having a more relaxed life here in Vancouver? My honest answer is not yet. However, though it is a very busy working life, as the time goes by I like working at Genesis more and more and am so proud of our team and the work we do. Not only do we help each other as a team, but we also sincerely want to help patients in every way possible.  Every member of this team will do everything they can to help you achieve your goal.  Being from Singapore where technological advancement is so prevalent, I can appreciate how hard the team has worked to ensure patients at Genesis have the latest technologies to help them in their journey.

Oh one last thing! At Genesis we really are a unique team, for instance most of us speak more than 1 language. For example, I can converse in Japanese as well as Indonesian and Mandarin (have to admit though that my mandarin is not good but manageable in that I can understand what people are talking about most of the time). If you happen to drop by to Genesis, you will probably see me working with numbers in the accounting dept.

Thank you for reading my little blog and looking forward to have a chance to meet you all in Genesis.
