Meet Us Mondays: Kathy Mildenstein, Transcriptionist

Kathy Mildenstein, Transcriptionist at Genesis Fertility Centre in Vancouver

Kathy Mildenstein, Transcriptionist

Hi, my name is Kathy.  I am the transcriptionist for the Genesis Fertility Centre but you may also find me sitting at reception if you are booked in for our early-bird blood work or ultrasounds. You may also see me taking payments as well – Genesis is not a one-hat working environment!

I am a transplant from Calgary, Alberta, where I was born and raised.  Approximately 15 years ago, my husband and I loaded up our VW van with our dog, cat and all of our life’s belongings and left Calgary for Vancouver during a blizzard. The weather in Calgary was -20 and the weather as we entered Vancouver was +20.  The cherry trees were in full bloom, the birds were chirping and I said that I was never moving back to Calgary!  But never say never as we have since moved back and forth a few more times over the years including a move to Canmore, AB and a move to Fernie, BC.  However, we never got Vancouver out of our system and through sheer will, determination and a few house sales, we finally made it back to Vancouver.

Throughout our many moves, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of great organizations and peoples.  I have worked for private practices including a pediatrician as well as an anesthesiologist; I have also worked for the Vancouver General Hospital in various departments, the Calgary Foothills Hospital in the OB/GYN department, the Fernie District Hospital as well as the Calgary Health Services’ Family Planning department – all in no particular order.

My last big move back to Vancouver in 2007 took me to the Genesis Fertility Centre, where I remain today working alongside a great team of people who make coming to work more a pleasure than a job.  I’m grateful for the team at Genesis, for their positive enthusiasm and professionalism.

When I am not at work, I can usually be found peddling around Vancouver, eating at a restaurant, or perusing the library. My goal for 2014 was to peddle the distance from here to Calgary and back (but just around Vancouver) but as I have already peddled 1016 km this year, I don’t think I have created enough of a challenge – maybe I will add in the distance to Regina too.

Meet Us Mondays: Krista A. Parr, Receptionist

Krista Adamic, Receptionist, Genesis Fertility Centre

Krista A. Parr, Receptionist, Genesis Fertility Centre

Hi, I’m Krista. As a part-time receptionist here at Genesis, I am often the first person that patients meet when they arrive at the clinic. As the elevators open and you step into Genesis for the first time, I know that it’s probably been a long, maybe painful journey for you already. It is my hope that your very first interaction with our clinic is representative of what your whole experience will be like: warm, welcoming, friendly, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and dedicated to excellence. You are in very good hands here.

My Journey to Genesis Fertility Centre

I came to Genesis in 2009 at a time of uncertainty and transition in my own life. I was forced to end my career as a contemporary dancer and choreographer prematurely due to profound injury and chronic pain. After dedicating my entire life to dance, I was questioning my identity and my future. At Genesis I became fascinated by the work of the passionate, hardworking staff and I was excited to learn about something other than dance! Admittedly, before coming to Genesis I had never really thought about fertility and was certainly not aware that so many individuals and couples were facing the heartbreak of infertility. As a ‘people-pleaser’ I wished I could personally do something more to support the lovely, gracious people who so deserved to become parents.

My Holistic Path

Root to Fruit Nutrition

Root to Fruit Nutrition, Krista Adamic’s business

When I began studying at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2011 I knew I wanted to direct my learning towards fertility and women’s health. I gained my Registered Holistic Nutritionist designation in March 2013 and promptly founded Root To Fruit Nutrition in order to support women on their fertility journey. For those facing infertility, improving the diet can reduce stress on the body, improve overall health, and provide a pro-active focus. Usually, simple, gradual changes can have a huge impact on your life! I have been deeply inspired by my clients and their incredible motivation and hope.

When I’m not working at the Genesis reception desk or helping women achieve their health goals through nutrition, I can be found teaching ballet to competitive gymnasts, practicing yoga, tending to my veggie garden, creating delicious meals, or laughing hysterically with my family and friends.
